SK,

Could the bad video cable cause the dim(very dark) screen symptom?

Yes, it's possible but I don't know if the cable is bad in your case. I cannot tell without testing.

At the time, nothing showed up on the screen, but somehow I got it to show very dim screen. It’s the same symptom as a bad inverter, very dark screeen where I can barely see things. But I know it’s there. Except, I don’t even have a second where the screen works properly even at the booting start.

Did you buy the same screen? You have to be very careful when buying parts on an IBM/Lenovo laptops. They don't like "compatible" replacements.
I would suggest replacing the screen with exactly same screen. Maybe your new screen just not compatible.

Vasil,

i have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite P200 The LCD Screen is lightly black(dark) when i turn the screen up and down. Do you know what can be???….is this only the LCD cable problem? wheren can i buy this part?

Do you get any image on the screen at all?
Can you get image on the external monitor?
If the laptop works fine with the external monitor, but the internal screen remains lightly black all the time, check connection between the video cable and LCD screen.
It's likely the cable got disconnected from the screen. I've seen it happening with Toshiba Satellite P200/P205 before.
Reconnecting the cable on the back of the screen might fix your problem.

Hi there,

I had a cracked LCD screen, so I bought a new one off eBay.
During the install, I might touch something around and screen doesn't work. External monitor works fine.

First, I thought the inverter went bad since I could see the screen for about a second when I connect and disconnect the cable to the inverter. So, I replaced the inverter but no luck.

At the time, nothing showed up on the screen, but somehow I got it to show very dim screen. It's the same symptom as a bad inverter, very dark screeen where I can barely see things. But I know it's there. Except, I don't even have a second where the screen works properly even at the booting start.

Now, I found that the video cable has some broken plastic part at the end. I don't know if it causes the problem, but my question is this.

Could the bad video cable cause the dim(very dark) screen symptom?
Or, do you think it's some other problem such as lid position sensor? I'm using Thinkpad T61 14.1".

Hi, i have a compaq laptop and i recently dropped it and cracked the screen on it. There is no way of seeing anything on the screen once i turn it on, i can jus see the backlight thru cracks on the screen, screen i basically black from all of the ink. I just purchased a VGA cable so i can use my hdtv as an external monitor. The problem is when i hook the cable up to the tv and the laptop, the tv is telling me that there is no signal. Can someone please give me advice on what to do?

Hi I notice one more thing on different Nvidia drivers screen goes off on the battery and power cord every time i go to NVidia control panel and go to TAB ''Adjust image settings with preview'' (Nvidia spinning logo in 3d) Like problem with 3d acceleration?? 2d works ok.
Right now i have default Nvidia drivers that comes with vista windows update and Logo TAB works OK and movie acceleration is OK but cant run any 3d game, its exiting to the desktop, but screen wont go blank. That isnt driver problem because before that happened i was updating Vga in every new release from Laptop2go site.
Thanks

Hi , I have this odd problem with my Laptop ( Gateway P-6860FX)
After starting up fresh copy of windows everything works OK but after Instaling NVidia drivers screen after some time goes blank (no sound hdd working lite bit longer but goes off to)And its sometimes wihite, black and even light blue.. Nothing works, external monitor wont work either. But if I startup system with external monitor connected it works no problem, Laptop screen and external monitor, if I disconnect monitor, laptop goes blank again and nothing helps it freezes. And thats happening usually when i try startup game or open Nvidia control panel sometimes right after logon screen, but if external monitor is connected works perfect???
Safe mode works perfect too, on battery i can manage to run the game so I ordered yesterday new power supply, but today it happend on my battery too... but on battery it almost works ok.
I checked monitor connection, instal every posible vga driver reinstall windows few times xp vista 7 bios update nothing helps, It worked two years no problem, that happened when i was playing game screen start flickering, and after restart problem with blank screen occurred
Please help!! give me any Idea what could be wrong. I think its vga problem and if it is its very odd because it works perfect with additinal monitor???

Daniel,

I forgot to mention that I tried to disconnect video cable from the screen = no change at all – only white backlight…

That's probably normal. You see just a white screen because the backlight lamp is working but there is no data signal coming from the motherboard.
On some laptops, the LCD screen turns completely white as soon as you disconnect the video cable from the screen.

What is certainly strange is that my brother could see picture, but now I can’t see any…

I guess your brother was able to see picture right after he dropped the laptop, but after you replaced the screen there is no picture on both (new and old cracked screen. Is my assumption correct?

There is a chance that you damaged the LCD cable while disconnecting it from the cracked screen. Did you pull by the wires? I guess you can try replacing the cable next.
If you using a known good LCD screen and video cable, but the screen is still white, it's either bad connection between the cable and motherboard/LCD or motherboard failure.
